The Sit Command for Puppies
A well trained dog not only makes you a proud owner but also helps you to communicate with your dog in an effective way. The dog training is not confined to a period of few months. It is an ongoing process and more you train the dog more you get hold of any dog related situation. Teaching a dog to sit is one of the commands introduced to the dog in his early training days. There are few basic of dog training that are to be kept in mind while teaching the dog any thing and everything.

1. A trained dog is an obedient dog. It is never too early to begin with the training process. You can begin his taming from the day of his arrival.
2. Do religiously practice the command taught to the dog everyday, thus to know better how much and what your dog has learnt.
3. Never scold, yell or punish the pup in the middle of the training sessions. Reinforce the desired actions only through praises and rewards.
These facts hold true for any kind of dog training.
The sit command is a very helpful and easy command. This command helps you to divert your dog’s mind and action at the times he is over excited. Like when you return home from work or are preparing his favourite meal; your jumping dog can be put to calm using the sit command.
It is the base command to be taught before teaching the further commands like “stand”, “stay”, “shake hands” etc. Any dog that does not know the “sit” command cannot respond to the further commands.
Step By Step Training
Step 1:
Training needs you to spend a lot of time with the puppy, at least in initial days. To teach him the command, first make your canine familiar with the word “sit” and the action associated with it. To do this, hang on with him and say aloud and clear “sit” whenever he sits.
Step 2:
Every time he sits, reward him with a treat. Remember do not stand and throw the scraps over him. This will change the canine’s sitting position. Rather, you come down to his level and keep the treat in front of him. Thus he is able to associate the reward with the action.
Step 3:
When practicing the obedience training the other day, hold the treat at his nose level and let him respond to it. Do not keep the treat high as that would make the puppy jump for it.
Step 4:
Every time the puppy sits, even when you are not in his training mode, say “sit” and praise the pup. This helps the dog to understand that this action is to be obeyed not just at the time of training! Remember, use treats and rewards only during the training session otherwise you may convey the wrong message to the dog that you will feed him every times he sits.
Believe it, the puppy loves to obey you, the only thing he requires for that is the right direction!
