Dog’s proper dental care protects him from many dental hazards. As many people think, dog’s bad breath is not normal!  The dog’s teeth should be examined and inspected to detect the early signs of diseases. The best of all is, the dog should be taken to his vet for a regular check up in every six to twelve months.

Dog’s Dental Care

1. The dog should be introduces to dental inspections and brushing from his puppy days. The dog has 28 deciduous teeth that fall off at the age of six months. He should be brought into the routine of oral hygiene before he gets his new set of denture.
2. Dog’s teeth should always be brushed using the toothpaste meant for dogs. The human toothpaste is harmful for them.
3. In the dogs also, the plaque start becoming into tartar after twenty four hours. For the same reason, his teeth should be brushed everyday. Take up his brushing activity the time when you do yours! This will help you to maintain the habit without a miss.
4. Do not introduce the tooth brush on very first day of brushing. The hard bristles of the brush may not give a comfortable feel to the dog. For initial few days, use of finger brush is highly recommended.
5. Before taking up the task in your hand, get well trained about how you should deal it, under the supervision of a vet. He can educate you with certain techniques that can make the brushing procedure easier for you and your dog.
6. If in any case, you are unable to brush the dog’s teeth, he should be treated with oral rinses for dogs which are easily available in market and can be recommended by your vet.
7. Along with your personal dental care, dog also needs a professional dental cleaning. The process requires local anaesthesia to be given to the dog. His teeth are then scaled and polished.

The combination of both your personal care and the vets treatments, will ensure a healthy denture set to your dog.
