Make Dog food At Home
Home made dog food is preferred by most of the dog owners because it not contains any harmful ingredients but also is very economic when compared with the commercial formulas. In absence of any artificial colour and added flavour, the home made food provides all the nutrition necessary for the dog’s good health. The preservatives present in the commercial food many times become the cause behind various allergies suffered by the dog. Any dog suffering from itching troubles can be benefited if his commercial food is replaced by the home made diet.
The commercial food ingredients are over cooked over high heat. This results in the loss of many essential nutrients and protein values from the food. A little awareness and efforts made by the dog owner contributes a lot in maintaining the dog’s good health.

Basics Of Home Made food
- A healthy nutritious home made food for the dog should contain at the most 50% of protein values that come from raw beef meet, lamb, poultry, white or fatty fish. Rest of the portion should include 25% of fresh vegetables and 25% of grains such as oatmeal or rice. Even the cooked meat without any oil can be given to the dog.
- The food items that should not be included in the dog’s homemade diet are fatty meats, fried food, uncooked pork or cured meat. Onions, raisins and grapes do not do any good to the dog’s health. Thus they should be avoided.
- To enhance the food quality, supplements of vitamins, omega-3 rich oils and minerals should be added to the dog’s diet. It ensures healthy coat and hair.
Regular Diets
The amount of diet that should be given to the dog varies with his age and breed.
- With busy day to day lifestyle, many dog owners would easily settle down for the commercial dog food available in abundance. But the easy and fast to cook homemade food is obviously a better option. A pot of brown rice with some minced chicken and few carrots supply all the vital nutrients to the dog along with saving a lot of cooking time. Oat meal can also be used to replace brown rice. It is rich in carbohydrates and easy to digest by the dog.
- A second best option available in homemade food is the raw diet. Grated vegetables given with the raw meat take a good care of dog’s digestive system. Though one must consult the vet to know more about the quantity of raw meat that has to given to the dog.
- If the dog is on commercial food, he should be switched to the home made food gradually under the supervision of a vet. This change may cause a little stomach upsets initially but are accepted by the dog’s digestive system in later run.
