Training your new puppy is not only limited to house training and teaching him the basics. One of the most commonly neglected training skills which your dog must be taught is how he should socialize with other people. This should not be neglected because it is an important factor in the routine of your puppy’s training. It must be taught to puppies while they are 4 to 12 weeks so that they do not become aggressive towards other people.

The reason why this is the advisable age to start teaching your dog how to socialize is because it is the crucial period during his development wherein your puppy is extra impressionable to other external influences. If his experiences with other people who are both young and old as well as the other animals like dogs and cats are positive, then there is a very high chance your dog will be accommodating to such external presence during his entire life. Meanwhile, if he has an unpleasant experience or even a completely absent experience with the above mentioned presence, then your dog might be aggressive later on.

As part of your puppy’s training, you must expose him to other dogs and to other social events and circumstances as much as possible so that he will be accustomed to them. This will let him experience that they are common day to day things which he will come in contact with. Because of this, it will teach him to be on his best behavior so that his owner will be proud of him and bring him along to the other events.

This socialization training can easily be done by just taking your dog to a public park where dogs are allowed. Since he is surrounded by other dogs and people, he will not feel frightened of the presence of these other beings the next time he encounters them. If you want your dog to be friendly to other members of your household and your guests, then it is surely important to teach your dog how to socialize as soon as he gets 4 weeks old.

The training procedure must be fun, pressure free and light hearted for your dog. It is important that your dog must not be overwhelmed with so much information given at once while you are training him for socializing. This is because his experience with the training must be happy and positive so that he will learn that the world is generally a safe and happy place.

If you train your puppy to be sociable, you will be highly rewarded so that you can take him anywhere and not be frightened that he will do something bad in public. Your relationship with him will also be enhanced because of this.
