Cold Weather Tips for Dogs
We make lot of preparations to ensure comfort during the chill winter season. There are lots of things including getting firewood ready for keeping the room warm, preparing blankets, woolen garments, coats and caps to be pulled out from the wardrobes. We make every effort to make the room cozy by ensuring that heating arrangements are ready, whether it is electric heater, wood fireplace or gas stove. We also make sure that our kitchen cabinets are stacked with supplies that keep us warm during the season.
Getting ourselves ready to tackle the chill winters, we often tend to forget how our pet animals will endure through the winter months. Remember, these pets really depend on us and all they can help themselves is by growing their furry coat of hair, which is only applicable for fewer breeds. So it is our responsibility to provide them comfort and care as we do in these cold days ahead.
Ensure that you act according to the temperature outside. When temperature is beneath the freezing point, it is mandatory to keep your pet dog inside your home even if it is usually kept outside. When you would never want to stay in the extreme cold weather, why would your pet want to?
Always pay attention that the sleeping area of the pet dog is stationed away from large windows and doors. The cold streams of air usually creep through the tiny openings and shiver your dog out of cold.
To help keep your dog warm, you can make or purchase sweaters. These will not only be helpful for smaller breeds, but even larger breeds will be benefitted as well when they spend most of the time outside homes.
Indulge or spare some of your time in getting your dog into plenty of exercising regimes during the cold season. You may get into some interesting fun games like throwing ball away and making your dog grab it back to you, or make your dog walk on the treadmill like you do, or even play games of chasing upwards and down the stairs. It may be difficult for you to make your dog exercise in the winter months. This is quite necessary to help maintain your dog, the proper weight and to stay fit and healthy as you would want to be despite of the harsh weather.
Give your dog proper feeds on time. If your dog is basically staying inside your home all the time, which most probably results into less exercise in winter season, you may give it less to eat and check weight regularly. Also if the dog is mostly staying outside, it shall most probably require extra food to feed during winter, as the body will be burning extra calories to maintain warmth.
Always make sure that your pet dog’s water is clean and not extremely cold if tumbler is kept outside. Your dog will not consume the required proportion of water if it is quite chill.
To make sure that your dog is taken well care of, sense your fair decision and always be sure that your pet is cozy and safe in the comfort of your home. Dogs also shiver as we humans do, and these canines all require the same warmth and compassion from you.
