Do not blame yourself; there are a number of reasons that could lead to puppy’s whining. One of them could be he got over pampered by you and now crying for your attention!

All little puppies whine at their early age. They cry to seek attention from their mother or from the master if hand raising them! So does our babies in their infant days!

The crying habit should be nip when in the bud! That means, a good understanding and a reasonable approach to the problem can comfort the little puppies thus not leaving them crying.

The most common factors that lead to the whines and cries are:

  1. These little brats are attention seeker. As they are social right from their mother’s womb, they hate to be left alone and isolated!
  2. The puppies also cry when they are uncomfortable. Like for example if wet, or feeling cold or hot or in pain.
  3. When the little puppy is brought to a new environment, like to his owner’s home from away from his breeder’s place and his litter mates, he miss them and cry.
  4. The cry may be due to some natural cause like he wants to go to toilet or is feeling hungry or thirsty.
  5. Whining could be a sign of separation anxiety your puppy is suffering from.

When we have a new baby coming in to our house we have a never ending list of preparations to be made so as to make him comfortable. The same way, when be are about to bring a little puppy home there are certain thing that we have to keep in place so as to make the dear puppy’s stay warm and comfortable.

  1. The little puppy should be provided with a warm, dry, safe and comfortable crate or area to rest.
  2.  Feed the puppy nicely and make water accessible to him. Do make sure he does not spill the water all over! Believe it, these young puppies are no less than little beasts!

Feeding the puppy at a particular area helps a lot to make him comfortable and acquainted to that place.

  1. To avoid the overnight whining of the puppy, if you are comfortable, bring his crate into your bed room. The puppies are comforted a lot with their pack’s scent! But if you do not want the puppy to visit your bedroom as a grown up dog, simply ignore his crying. Placing your socks or any cloth having your scent in it in his crate makes him feel very comfortable. Some Vets suggests of making a stuff toy out of your socks for the little puppy and keep it in his crate. The puppy feels it is his litter mate and is happy to be with him.

Many dog owners keep a ticking clock covered with a soft towel near the little puppy. This makes him feel the presence of a companion.

  1. From the day of his arrival, begin his crate training and obedience training. Play with him and help him burn out his energy. A nicely fed tired puppy sleeps properly the whole night!
  2. If any of the above tricks do not work take the little pup to the vet to make sure he is not suffering from any kind of pain or health hazards.
