Dogs can be the best friends and companions to walk with, the best trainers in your morning and evening walks and the major irksome and pesky agents all at the same time. But with them you are assured of a good time as they keep you up to speed with the exact time you are expected to be out and where you need to change a little. They also do not need to be cajoled and pleaded on as many other folks, friends and family do. So in order to get the best out of this dog walks the following are some pointers to an excellent walking experience, you and your dog.

Training the dog

It is always good to start walking your dog while it is still a puppy. You can choose to go for dog training classes where you’ll get the necessary tips on how to efficiently walk your dog and enjoy it too. You of course need the training and that is only if you can create money in you budget for the effort. When the dog is still a sweet puppy you will learn how to keep it under the leash then progress to giving him his freedom when he grows up. Imagine walking with a dog that accepts your commands and instructions without question. When you tell it to heel, sit and run it does them without prompting. And with the training, the dog will not just up and go with record speed leaving you with baited breath trying to catch up with him; he and you need to get a meeting point where you all can enjoy each others company.

The dog and the leash

Of course a leash is highly necessary when you are walking your dog so that you limit the speed and the problems associated with walking a mischievous dog. But you are also advised that you should use the pinch collar which makes it much easier to check and manipulate the comfort and speed of the dog especially if he is the type to pull away every time you walk with him. Inasmuch as the pinch collar is useful, you can also use the retractable leash or the harness. These are particularly important when you want to give the dog some little space to explore and the same time, bring him close when you want him closer.

Carry water

I hope it will not come as a surprise when I say that dogs on the trail also get dehydrated. Therefore be sure that as you take the dog for a walk you also carry water for the dog and for you too. A word of caution, please always find out the places that walking a dog is allowed so that you don’t get on the wrong side of the law.

Name your dog

You may loose your dog in your walking if you are not careful, and to curb this menace it is important to put a name tag on the leash or more importantly train it to recognize your name calling voice when he wanders. But still one can enjoy the immense pleasure of walking the dog any time of the season.
