Training your dog to walk on a leash
Walking your dog on a leash comes with many advantages than you can ever imagine. May be you wonder why people use a leash when the dog can walk on his own; it’s for many reasons that people choose to do it. Some dogs are violent and they have no choice but to attack any new face that appears in front. The dog creates a notion in the mind that he has been taken out on a mission to bite or rather provide security to the owner.
But this is not enough either because a lot of human and motor vehicle traffic hinder the owner to satisfactorily guide his dog along, hence this calls for the use of a leash. The advantages of a leash are enormous and it will run down to millions, what you ought to master is how you can train your dog to walk on a leash.
At some point, your dog may want to enter where you want to enter as much as you do but its not always a good thing to do especially when you are training him to follow those instructions you have in mind. Remember that what you do on the first day is what the dog takes for sure hence you need not to change tactics to minimize confusing your dog. Usually the dog may want to move faster than you or even much slower but who is the boss in this situation is the solution. The dog will cause the leash to stretch on either way just to let you know that that is what it wants done, but stand strong and firm to make him follow what you want done.
Consistence is what you need to have as you get the dog involved step by step and slowly as you can as he is taught new tactics. For example when the leash is tight, remain standing without moving forward. This is a perfect step to enlighten him about your intentions and never relent or give in to his demands and/ or allow him to even drag you along; this can be referred to as bad training.
As you creatively train your dog on how to walk wit that dreaded leash, never think of quitting or letting the leash loose because its here when failure beckons and your dog takes commands on you. Never let the leash off the hook, you can tie it around your waist against a strong belt so that pulling of the leash is reduced. Rewarding your dog when it shows positive signs is the best way to encourage him. Make sure your rewards are lavish and without reservations so as to woo his confidence. Try to praise the dog whenever you deem its fit and practice rewards following the lessening leash tension you gradually get forward. The way you reward your dog determines how the training process will be in the long run therefore post exemplary character because your is as clever as you are only that it cannot speak.
